Field Experiences

Key Program Details:

Audience: K-12 students in Northern Colorado
Participation Cost: All programming is free for District 6 students. Fee for out of district students is $25 per student. The vast majority of our out-of-district schools receive scholarships to cover some or all of the cost of attending a program. Both D6 and non-D6 schools frequently receive transportation scholarships to cover the cost of buses.
Program Need: Funding is always needed to support our Field Experience Ambassador program and transportation scholarship fund.

2024-2025 Program Highlights

Program Numbers: Conducted 104 Field Experiences on-site at the PLC or in school classrooms.
School and District participation: Worked with 40 schools across Northern Colorado. 76% of Field Experiences served Greeley-Evans District 6 schools
Student participation: 8,208 K-12 students participated in Field Experiences at the PLC or in the classroom
Student evaluation: 87% of students surveyed said they felt more inspired to take care of nature after their on-site Field Experience
Teacher evaluation: Teachers’ average rating of the quality of instruction is 4.6 out of 5.
Ambassadors: The PLC has an amazing team of 12 Ambassadors with education and natural science backgrounds that expertly teach each Field Experience.

Caring For Our Watersheds

The Colorado contest has been identified as a Water Education Exemplar by the Colorado Watershed Assembly!

The Colorado program builds water literacy for young Coloradans. Its educational excellence has been corroborated by review against the Guildlines for Excellence in Environmental Education (national standards), and it is supportive of the Colorado Water Plan.

Key Program Details:
Program Ownership: Launched and funded by Nutrien and hosted locally by the Poudre Learning Center.
Audience: Open to high school students living it the South Platte River Watershed.
Program Need: Additional funding is still needed to support Field Experience Ambassadors who help deliver foundational lessons that prepare students to participate meaningfully in the program.

Program Highlights:

Submissions: Received 296 proposals from 495 students across Weld, Larimer, and Morgan counties; Promoting cross-district collaboration.
School & District Participation: 15 schools across 5 public school districts and 2 independent schools were represented.
Winning teams: 10 finalist teams and 2 honorable mention teams will be recognized at the May 9th Awards Ceremony.

Nutrien is providing up to $17,000 in cash prizes awarded to students and schools and $10,000 to help finalist teams implement their environmental solutions.

Total impact: 16 projects will be implemented to improve local watersheds
